Dapoli is a pleasant town situated at a height of about 800 feet above sea level in Ratnagiri district, Konkan on the west coast of Maharashtra, India. It is blessed with abundant natural beauty and enjoys a cool climate throughout the year. Surrounded by hills and forests and having a long coastline, this is a home for a variety of migratory birds and animals. There are plenty of cashew nut, jackfruit, coconut and betel nut plantations. Known as Mahabaleshwar of Konkan, this is a great place to spend holidays.

Despite the increase in tourism, Konkan beaches have managed to remain untouched and unspoiled and are amongst the cleanest ones on the entire west cost of India. The beaches near Dapoli won’t disappoint you either. Nature Lovers can indulge themselves in exploring the hiking trails in the nearby jungles. Asud - Temples on hillock

Shree Keshavraj (Vishnu) temple and Shree Vyaghreshwar temple are located amidst lush green land, a perennial stream and rolling hills. The surroundings are calm and tranquil interrupted only by the harmonious chirping of birds.

Suvarnadurg and Kanakdurg Forts - Harne

Located 17 km from Dapoli at Harnai, the Suvarnadurg fort consists of two forts. Kanakdurga is the land fort and Suvarnadurga is the sea fort. The forts were originally built by the Adil Shahi dynasty and later captured and fortified by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1660. Once there was a tunnel connecting both the forts but now the only way to get to Suvarnadurga is by boat. However, currently there is no regular boat service to the fort and one has to arrange for a ferry from the local fishermen. There is a lighthouse inside the Kanakdurga fort.

Murud and Karde - Magnificent Beaches

Two adjacent beaches with soft sand and wide expanse. Safe for swimming or you can just wade in the waters with white waves lapping at your feet. Dolphin-spotting and parasailing are the main attractions here. Durga Devi temple in Murud built way back in the 18th Century is worth a visit for the carvings on its wooden pillars.

Anjarle

A magnificent temple of lord Ganesh located on a cliff side (“Kadyavarcha Ganpati”) is the primary attraction at Anjarle. Don’t miss the fish auction that takes place in Harnai in the evenings. It also has ancient forts like Suvarnadurga and Kanakdurga and a Light House.

Dabhol Port

Do pay a visit to the underground temple of Goddess Chandika (“Chandika devi mandir”). The idol is believed to have been formed naturally (“swayambhu”) and the temple is in a cave. The fishing jetty, Gopalgad fort, a beach, dolphin watching are the other attractions.

Panhalekaji Caves

Located on the Dapoli-Dabhil Pangari road is a place called Panhalekaji and can also be accessed from Khed via Vakavali & Tetavali. The “Leni” or caves at Panhalekaji are a must-see. You can drive up to the caves. The place is situated deep in the valley near the confluence of the ‘Kotjai’ and ‘Dhakti’ rivers. You can watch many birds and reptiles in the surrounding jungle and river. There are 29 caves and many sculptures around the area. The whole area is very beautiful. The carvings in these caves are from many periods from the 3rd century to the 14th century.
